Checkpoints Privacy Policy
This website (youngdriverparenting.org) was created as part of a research study funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control as a way to give parents free, online access to the Checkpoints Program. It is now maintained within the University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center.
We believe that your personal information belongs to you. We have included some questions on the Registration page and Registration Survey pages, and the pre- and posttests asking for information about you and how you learned about this website. This information will help us evaluate how to make this website available to a wide audience of parents.
Data we collect: Important data will be collected when you visit the website, including standard information that your browser sends to every website you visit. This information will help us improve the quality of the resources provided to parents on the website and make access to the website easier. We have included general questions (state, county of residence, and high school) on the Checkpoints prettest and posttest. This information will help us evaluate how to make this website available to a wide audience of parents. Also, we collect optional information (birth month, birth year, and name) that is needed to create a Checkpoints completion certificate and reporting to a school if a student requires proof of completion for a school-provided incentive, if available. The information will not be rented or sold to third parties. It will not be used in any way to attempt to sell you goods or services of any kind. It will be kept completely confidential.
Username and Password
When you register on the website to receive access to the Interactive Parent-Teen Driving Agreement you will be asked to choose a password to help protect your account. We recommend that you use a username and password that will be easy for you to remember but that does not reveal any personal information about yourself; avoid using your name or other words in your username or password that reveal your identity. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and account and are fully responsible for all activities that occur under your password or account.
Email Addresses
When you register on the website, you will have the opportunity to provide an email address so you can receive an automated email reminder during each future week you establish to review your Parent-Teen Driving Agreement. We recommend that you use an email address that does not include your full name or other information that can reveal your identity. If you receive email reminders from us, but later wish to stop receiving such communications, you may do so at any time by simply sending us a message asking that we delete your email address from the email list.

The Resources page and Additional Information pages of this website contain links to the websites of other agencies and organizations that provide information about teen driving. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to familiarize themselves with the privacy statements of every website that collects personal information.
Children’s Privacy
We do not seek or knowingly collect any personal identifiable information about children under 18 years of age, except when a parent has chosen to supply optional information needed to create a completion certificate and data needed as proof for their teen’s school incentive program. If we become aware that we have unknowingly collected personal identifiable information from a child under the age of 18 when a parent did not intend for it to be shared, we will make reasonable efforts to delete such information from our database.
